If you are a beneficiary of the benefits provided by the Social Security Administration (SSA), you can be assured that the pension payments to retirees for the month of September 2025 will be made normally. However, if you are also a recipient of Supplemental Security Income (SSI), you may have noticed that you have not received it in your account. This is because the payment was already made, specifically on August 29.

However, if you ever experience a missed payment, the Administration advises waiting 3 business days. If you still do not receive it, you can contact the Administration by phone or visit one of its offices in person, such as those in Albany, Buffalo, Rochester, Middletown, or Syracuse, in the northern part of New York state.

Social Security Administration (SSA) in the United States

As described on its own website, the Social Security Administration (SSA) is responsible for managing the national social security program, which includes retirement, survivor, and/or disability insurance programs. It administers, among other things, the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program for the elderly, blind, or disabled, and also has the task of assigning Social Security numbers to residents in the United States.

What happened with the SSI payment in September?

One of the most characteristic aspects of the SSA’s operations is the arrangement of its calendar. As we have explained earlier on this portal, if the payment day coincides with a weekend or holiday, the administration advances the payment to the first business day. This is what happened with the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) in September. Some may think that the payment has been delayed, but the truth is that the SSI corresponding to September 2025, was deposited on August 29, 2025, since September 1 coincided with the holiday of Labor Day.

Social Security retirement program

With this peculiarity in the calendar, it is important to note that in the case of retirement benefits, there will be no changes for the month of September. As always, the payment of monthly benefits will proceed normally, following the usual rule of the birth dates of each beneficiary, and the Wednesdays of each month. If you are a beneficiary, here is the calendar for the month of September:

  • Wednesday, September 3: those who started collecting before May 1997.
  • Wednesday, September 10: born between the 1st and the 10th.
  • Wednesday, September 17: born between the 11th and the 20th.
  • Wednesday, September 24: born between the 21st and the 31st.

I haven´t received my payment this month. What can I do?

It is very unusual for there to be failures in the payments of assistance from the Social Security Administration. However, it can happen, so citizens need to know what to do in this type of situation. The agency recommends waiting 3 business days after the scheduled date, as we are talking about electronic deposits that do not always happen immediately. In this case, the customer service contact number provided by the SSA is 1-800-772-1213 (TTY: 1-800-325-0778), available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

If you prefer other ways, you can also go in person to the offices of the Social Security Administration (SSA). Some of the options are the offices in Albany, Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, or Middletown, in the northern part of New York State. Additionally, through their website you can find useful information, as well as multiple tools that help calculate benefits in a simulation mode, which can start to be received from the age of 62.

Have you heard about the changes that the Social Security Administration (SSA) has announced for 2026? They will mainly affect retirement. Read more here!
